Ask, Seek, Knock | Pedir, Buscar, Llamar

Galatians 3:1-5; Luke 11:5-13

One of the great features of the Solanus Casey Center in Detroit are the ponderous glass doors at the entrance near the Creation Garden. There are three words etched on the doors: “Ask…Seek…Knock.” They express in a simple and profound way the mission of the and desires of many pilgrims who come.

The SCC is a place where people can:

Ask the Lord for a favor through the intercession of Blessed Solanus.

Seek to draw closer to God through prayer, meditation, and the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Penance.

Knock on the doors of opportunity to learn more about their Catholic faith, God’s word, the lives of the saints, the Works of Mercy, the Franciscan charism, and the life and work of the Capuchin friars, especially in Detroit.

These three gestures—asking, seeking, knocking—are all expressions of faith. St. Paul reminds us in our first reading that none of us can save ourselves through our works. We are blessed with the Spirit and saved by putting our faith in Christ, and our works are the fruits of our gratitude and God’s grace. Jesus invites us to our faith in God’s goodness, love, providence, and generosity. We only need to come to the door.

Una de las grandes características del Centro Solanus Casey de Detroit son las pesadas puertas de cristal en la entrada cerca del Jardín de la Creación. Hay tres palabras grabadas en las puertas: "Pedir... Buscar... Llamar". Expresan de manera simple y profunda la misión y los deseos de muchos peregrinos que vienen.

El CCE es un lugar donde la gente puede:

Pedir al Señor un favor por la intercesión del Beato Solano.

Buscar acercarse a Dios a través de la oración, la meditación y los sacramentos, especialmente el Eucaristía y penitencia.

Llamar a las puertas de la oportunidad para aprender más sobre su fe católica, la palabra de Dios, las vidas de los santos, las Obras de Misericordia, el carisma franciscano, y la vida y el trabajo de los frailes capuchinos, especialmente en Detroit.

Estos tres gestos - pedir, buscar, llamar - son todas expresiones de fe.  San Pablo nos recuerda en nuestra primera lectura que ninguno de nosotros puede salvarse a sí mismo a través de sus obras. Somos bendecidos con el Espíritu y salvados al poner nuestra fe en Cristo, y nuestras obras son los frutos de nuestra gratitud y la gracia de Dios. Jesús nos invita a nuestra fe en la bondad, el amor, la providencia, y la generosidad de Dios. Sólo tenemos que llegar a la puerta.
