Belonging and Blessing | Pertenecer y Bendecir

Galatians 3:22-29; Luke 11:27-28

One of our most basic human needs is to have a sense of belonging. We’re social animals. We need each other. As we have discovered over the past seven months, if we can’t make those connections in person, we will try to create them virtually or from a distance.

We are created in the image of a triune God who is one and a communion of persons. As St. Paul told the Galatians, things like ethnicity, social status, and gender make us different, but we are all one in Christ. The Church, too, is a communion of persons.  

Mary was blessed to have the privilege of carrying Jesus in her womb, giving birth to him, and nursing him—such intimacy with the Word made flesh! Yet none if it would have happened if she had not first heard the word of God given to her by the angel Gabriel.  She kept that word in her heart and, through the mystery of the Incarnation, the Word became part of her. We pray for that kind of attention and obedience.

Una de nuestras necesidades humanas más básicas es tener un sentido de pertenencia.  Somos animales sociales. Nos necesitamos unos a otros. Como hemos descubierto en los últimos siete meses, si no podemos hacer esas conexiones en persona, trataremos de crearlas virtualmente o a distancia.

Somos creados a imagen y semejanza de un Dios trino que es uno y una comunión de personas. Como dijo San Pablo a los gálatas, cosas como la etnia, el estatus social y el género nos hacen diferentes, pero todos somos uno en Cristo. La Iglesia, también, es una comunión de personas.  

María fue bendecida al tener el privilegio de llevar a Jesús en su vientre, darlo a luz y amamantarlo, ¡tanta intimidad con la Palabra hecha carne! Sin embargo, nada de esto hubiera sucedido si no hubiera escuchado primero la palabra de Dios que le fue dada por el ángel Gabriel. Ella guardó esa palabra en su corazón y, a través del misterio de la Encarnación, el Verbo se convirtió en parte de ella. Oramos por esa clase de atención y obediencia.
