Hard Sayings and Amazing Deeds | Duros Dichos y Hechos Sorprendentes

Acts 9:31-42; John 6:60-69

When Jesus proclaimed that he was the Bread of Life and that those who ate his flesh and drank his blood would have eternal life, many found what he said too hard to accept. They turned away from him. They just could not wrap their hearts and minds around what he told them. They were living in the flesh, bound by worldly understanding.

With the gift of faith and perhaps a little desperation (“Lord, to whom shall we go?”), Peter chose to live in the spirit. As we see many times in the New Testament, he was far from perfect, but by taking the risk of belief in Jesus, he opened his heart and mind to be used by the Lord. Peter couldn’t heal Aeneas or raise Tabitha (Dorcas) from the dead by his own power. Athanasius wouldn’t have been able to defend the teachings of the Council of Nicea against other bishops and emperors with his own wisdom and strength. Jesus worked through them.

Jesus can do amazing things through us, too. But it requires that we sometimes accept some hard sayings.

Cuando Jesús proclamó que él era el Pan de Vida y que aquellos que comían su carne y bebían su sangre tendrían vida eterna, muchos encontraron que lo que decía era demasiado difícil de aceptar. Se alejaron de él. No podían envolver sus corazones y mentes alrededor de lo que les decía. Vivían en la carne, atados por el entendimiento mundano.

Con el don de la fe y quizás un poco de desesperación ("Señor, ¿a quién iremos?"), Pedro eligió vivir en el espíritu. Como vemos muchas veces en el Nuevo Testamento, estaba lejos de ser perfecto, pero al arriesgarse a creer en Jesús, abrió su corazón y su mente para ser usado por el Señor. Pedro no pudo curar a Eneas o resucitar a Tabita (Dorcas) de la muerte por su propio poder. Atanasio no habría sido capaz de defender las enseñanzas del Concilio de Nicea contra otros obispos y emperadores con su propia sabiduría y fuerza. Jesús trabajó a través de ellos.

Jesús también puede hacer cosas asombrosas a través de nosotros. Pero necesitamos a veces aceptar algunos dichos duros.
