Our Lady of the Rosary

Galatians 2:1-2, 7-14; Luke 11:1-4

Some of us like to keep things in order and minimize clutter. Others have kitchens, bedrooms, offices, and cars that seem like disaster areas. But they insist they have a “system” for keeping track of their things, and often they can find them very quickly.

Our first reading reminds us of the challenge of living with messiness in a community. St. Paul writes about the period shortly after what we now call the Council of Jerusalem (see Acts 15). The apostles had reached a compromise on the question of how much of the Jewish law that gentile Christians needed to embrace, and after their meeting they sent out letters to the churches explaining their decisions. But the reception and implementation of that decision was another matter, even for the apostles. It took time for people to understand and accept what had been decided in Jerusalem.  

It’s no different today in the Church. We need to be able to live with a certain amount of messiness, praying for God’s help and a spirit of mercy, to enable us to stay together for the sake of the gospel. Our Lady of the Rosary and Mother of the Church, pray for us.

Nuestra Señora del Rosario

A algunos nos gusta mantener las cosas en orden y minimizar el desorden. Otros tienen cocinas, dormitorios, oficinas y coches que parecen zonas de desastre. Pero insisten en que tienen un "sistema" para llevar un registro de sus cosas, y a menudo pueden encontrarlas muy rápidamente.

Nuestra primera lectura nos recuerda el desafío de vivir con desorden en una comunidad.  San Pablo escribe sobre el período poco después de lo que ahora llamamos el Concilio de Jerusalén (ver Hechos 15). Los apóstoles habían llegado a un compromiso sobre la cuestión de cuánto de la ley judía que los cristianos gentiles debían abrazar, y después de su reunión enviaron cartas a las iglesias explicando sus decisiones. Pero la recepción y aplicación de esa decisión era otro asunto, incluso para los apóstoles. Se necesitó tiempo para que la gente entendiera y aceptara lo que se había decidido en Jerusalén.  

No es diferente hoy en día en la Iglesia. Necesitamos poder vivir con cierto desorden, rezando por la ayuda de Dios y un espíritu de misericordia, para poder permanecer juntos por el bien del evangelio. Nuestra Señora del Rosario y Madre de la Iglesia, ruega por nosotros.
