Making Time and Space | Hacer el Tiempo y el Espacio

Galatians 1:13-24; Luke 10:38-42

One of the blessings of life in our Capuchin novitiate is that the novices have a fair amount of free time. In addition, we spend about 3 hours each day in chapel. The time is almost evenly divided between our communal prayer (Liturgy of the Hours and Eucharist) and personal prayer (meditation, lectio divina, meditation, contemplation, rosary, etc.).  

Capuchins, however, aren’t monks. When our novices leave here, they will be faced with other obligations and demands on their time: school, ministry, etc. But the need to create and reserve time and space for the Lord will persist.

Mary chose “the better part” not because she avoided work but because she made the time to be present with Jesus. Paul needed three years after his conversion to prepare for the mission to which God called him. Time and space with the Lord sometimes seem like luxuries, especially in the face of all of life’s other demands. But they’re necessities. Can we make room for them?

Una de las bendiciones de la vida en nuestro noviciado capuchino es que los novicios tienen bastante tiempo libre. Además, pasamos alrededor de 3 horas cada día en la capilla.  El tiempo se divide casi por igual entre nuestra oración comunitaria (Liturgia de las Horas y Eucaristía) y la oración personal (meditación, lectio divina, meditación, contemplación, rosario, etc.).  

Los capuchinos, sin embargo, no son monjes. Cuando nuestros novicios se vayan de aquí, se enfrentarán a otras obligaciones y exigencias en su tiempo: escuela, ministerio, etc. Pero persistirá la necesidad de crear y reservar tiempo y espacio para el Señor.

María eligió "la mejor parte" no porque evitara el trabajo sino porque se hizo el tiempo para estar presente con Jesús. Pablo necesitó 3 años después de su conversión para prepararse para la misión a la que Dios lo llamó. El tiempo y el espacio con el Señor a veces parecen lujos, especialmente frente a todas las demás exigencias de la vida. Pero son necesidades. ¿Podemos hacer espacio para ellos?
